Makers of Stirling - 7 Trades Workshop

Description

We have a rich collection of objects that tell the story of the makers of Stirling’s early trades – the Baxters, Cordiners, Weavers, Tailors, Hammermen, Skinners and Fleshers. Participating in this workshop will offer the opportunity to explore these stories in more detail, find out about what trades people in Stirling did in the past and consider what trades and industries might be important in the future.

By the end of the session, we will be able to…

  • Identify early trades that were carried out in the Stirling area and the jobs people did
  • Compare Stirling’s early trades with what Stirling people do today – what’s the same, what is different?
  • Identify which trades still exist in the local area
  • Explain why some early trades no longer exist
  • Discuss how working life might change in the future
